Mathematics

Key Stage 3 Details

Students are taught in sets based on the KS2 level and attainment on a setting test held at the beginning of Year 7.  There are four sets on the MFR side of the timetable and four sets on the WLT side.

All students then cover the 4 strands of mathematics during the year:

1. Number 2. Algebra 3. Geometry and Measures. 4. Statistics

These strands are continually revisited during the year. In each strand there are many mathematical objectives that need to be taught by the teacher and understood by students. The key objectives are the objectives that a student should understand by the end of the year.

Students do a short review after each topic, this gives the student and teacher an indication of how improvements can be made in that area. At the end of the year these reviews, along with other pieces of work, are used to assess each pupil and give an end of year level. This determines which set the student will be in for year 8.
