French
Course Content
The aim of the course is for students to learn French through authentic, everyday situations, enabling them to communicate effectively with native speakers
Students explore a number of topic areas in French, aiming to reach a high standard of speaking, reading, writing and listening. Each component is worth 25% of the final mark. Students will be expected to reach a high level of competence in French grammar.
There are four main themes:
- My World
- Holiday Time and Travel
- Work and Lifestyle
- Young Person in Society

Method of Assessment
Final Assessment
25% in each of the following areas:
- Speaking – a 15 minute speaking test
- Reading – final examination
- writing – four or five pieces of coursework are completed, the best three are submitted to the examination board, one will be in exam conditions
- listening – final examination
Coursework 25%
- Description of a famous person
- Account of Work Experience
- Account of a holiday
- I’ve won!”
Homework Policy
45 minutes per week – one learning and one written homework each week

Course Content
Students study 14 topic areas including: personal identification, family and home, school, holidays, free-time, transport, entertainment, the wider world, etc. Students learn to communicate through speaking and writing and to comprehend through reading and listening. They will acquire the grammatical structures needed for communication and to provide a base for further study if desired.
