Engineering

Introduction

Institute of the Motor Industry Technical Certificate/Award: Vehicle Fitting
This is an industry sector award from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) that is recognised by employers for career entry and by colleges as a respected engineering qualification. At level 2 it has the equivalence to 5 GCSEs at grade B whilst at level 1 it is equivalent to 3 GCSEs at grade D.  It is specifically based around the major systems of the modern motor car but many skills are also general to engineering.  The course is taught in partnership with the School of Automotive Engineering at Waltham Forest College.

Students must commit to travelling independently off-site to Waltham Forest College one afternoon each week for an extended afternoon workshop session.

There will also be a one hour school-based theory lesson.

Numbers are limited and selection will be based on interview.

Why Engineering?

For students considering a career in the automotive engineering sector this is an excellent preparation.  It will also be an appropriate course for students considering any trade career (general and maintenance engineering, construction, plumbing etc) and for those who enjoy working with tools, problem-solving or are just very interested in cars.

The course is also a good complement to Science studies and gives experience of vocational education before the student goes to college full-time.
