End Of Term Letter

19 July 2019

Dear Parent/Carer

It’s been a wonderful term here at Leytonstone School and I would like to thank you all for your support throughout the academic year.

We have experienced a range of successful events celebrations over the last few weeks. We said a fond farewell to the outgoing year 11 at their Prom event. The Summer Fete was a lovely afternoon for both staff, students and visitors. The PE department organised a fantastic Sports Awards evening recently and finished the term off so well yesterday with a brilliant sports day where many new records were set. Well done to all the students who took part and gave their best. It was a wonderful occasion. This week, enrichment was a great success and enabled students to explore new ideas and ways of collaborating and learning.

Please be aware that end of year reports will available via the SIMS parent app today.

As you may be aware I will be moving onto a new Headteacher role in September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your children for giving me four fantastic years at Leytonstone. It has been a truly wonderful experience to work at Leytonstone School having seen it improve first hand over the past few years. I came here as a student many years ago and leave now as its outgoing Headteacher. I am delighted also that the governors have recruited Ms Jessica McQuaid as the new Headteacher who I have every confidence will lead the school to even greater success over the coming years.

There are a number of other staff whom we will be saying goodbye to this week. We fully appreciate all of their tremendous hard work and dedication to the school, thank you!

I am glad to inform you that following a very active two terms of recruitment the school has appointed some great new staff and subsequently will be fully staffed in September. Please refer to our school website for details of changes to contact details for teachers in both department and pastoral areas of the school. I feel I must specifically say goodbye to Mr Smith our deputy Headteacher who will be relocating and taking up a deputy principal role at a special school in Kent. He has been a valued member of staff here at Leytonstone for 17 years and will be a big loss to the school. We wish him every success in his new role.

School opens Wednesday 4th September for our New Year 7 students who we are really looking forward to welcoming back.

Years 8-11 start back on Thursday 5th September. The school will be open from the 1st September but there are 2 teacher Inset days – on 2nd and 3rd September.

Results day for year 11 is 22nd August from 9.30-11.30 in the main hall.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer.

Yours faithfully,

Raza Ali

Acting Headteacher

In particular, we would like to convey a very special and sincere thank you from the Governors to the exiting acting headteacher, Mr Raza Ali, who will be missed, in particular by the students, and who cannot be thanked enough for his hard work, stepping in and leading the school with such energy and positivity over the last two terms. We wish you the very best of luck and every success in your new headship Mr Ali!

Lastly, we would like to wish all our students a fun and happy summer holiday – Do remember that you are all still Leytonstone students and part of the Leytonstone family, even in holiday time! Get active and enjoy the long summer days because, after all, winter is coming! Above all, be sensible, be kind and stay safe – Look after yourself and your friends, both in real life and online.

September is going to be a busy and exciting time. A new headteacher, new staff, an extra class in year 7 and exciting developments on the school site. We look forward to seeing you all again in the autumn term, recharged, refreshed and ready to start a new learning journey!
