Strike Action – 5th July 2016

30 June 2016

Dear Parents/Carers
Strike action Tuesday 5th July 2016
A national strike by the NUT has been called for Tuesday 5th July.
The governing body at the school have carefully assessed the likely impact of this strike action on Leytonstone School. Based upon this careful assessment I can confirm that the proposed NUT action will not prevent the school opening to all pupils/students on Tuesday 5th July 2016, as normal.
However, as you know Eid may fall on either the 5th or 6th July. It is more likely to be the 6th but there is still a chance it could be on the same day as the strike. If that is the case, the school will need to close as this would leave us too short staffed because Muslim staff will be celebrating Eid with their families and community. We will let parents know if this is the case on Monday evening. Please do keep an eye on the school website and ensure the school has up to date email and mobile number for you.
If we do have to close on Tuesday, and this creates problems for you in terms of childcare, please let the school know as the senior leadership team will be in school to look after students affected in this way.
Finally, the school will be closed early on Wednesday 6th July for staff training. School will end at 1.20pm as opposed to 3pm and lunches will be provided for all students who would like one.
Yours sincerely,

Siobhan Walsh & Alan Jeffery
Co-Chair of Governors

Leytonstone School Open Day – 18th June 2016

10 June 2016

As you will know, Leytonstone School is changing.

Last term we took ownership of our fantastic new buildings. In order to celebrate this, to officially open the new buildings and to let the local community see the great new learning facilities that we have at the school, we are holding an open day on Saturday 18th June between 10.30 and 1.00pm. As well as a chance to see the great new facilities we have at the school, there will be demonstrations of work from subjects which are housed in our new buildings. There will be opportunities to try out activities in PE, learn some new words and phrases in our Modern Foreign Languages Department, take part in some exciting experiments in Science, create a piece of work in Art, make something to take home in Technology, hear performances in our Music Department, see performances in our Drama Department and try out a sample of some of the healthy food that we serve to our students in the restaurant.

As well as these activities, there will be face painting, a bouncy castle and Segway tours of the site. The local police and Fire Service will also be present to talk to people about their work, give safety advice and give young people the opportunity to explore the inside of a fire engine and a police car and play with the lights and sirens!

We would love to welcome you to this community event at the school and would ask you to share this information with friends and neighbours and encourage them along on the morning of the 18th June to see how Leytonstone School is changing.

Current students are already familiar with the new facilities that we have and whilst this event is not aimed at them, it is aimed at showcasing the school to the wider community, current students are welcome to attend, if accompanied by a parent.

We look forward to welcoming you, your family friends and neighbours to the school on Saturday 18th June.

Yours sincerely
